About the BMI Calculator
How to use it
1. Enter your height and weight — each field has its own unit dropdown (cm, m or ft/in for height; kg or lb for weight), so use whatever you're comfortable with. 2. Read your BMI value and category on the colored scale. 3. Optionally switch to Asian-Pacific cut-offs — they use lower thresholds, which fit South Asian body types better.
What is BMI?
Body Mass Index is weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared. It is the standard quick screening tool for underweight, normal, overweight and obesity used by doctors and the WHO.
Two classification systems
The WHO scale calls 18.5–24.9 normal. For Asian and South Asian populations, international guidance (WHO/IASO/IOTF) lowers the cut-offs: 18.5–22.9 normal, 23–24.9 at increased risk, 25+ obese — because health risks like diabetes rise at lower BMIs in these populations.
Know its limits
BMI does not measure body fat directly. Muscular people can read as overweight, and it says nothing about fat distribution. Treat it as a screening signal — combine it with the BMR and Calorie calculators to plan your nutrition.
