About the IP Checker

How to use it

1. Type or paste any IP address. 2. See instantly whether it is public, private, loopback or link-local, with its binary form and special notes. 3. Copy the details you need for your network setup.

Public vs private IPs

Private ranges (10.x.x.x, 172.16–31.x.x, 192.168.x.x) are used inside home and office networks and cannot be reached directly from the internet. A public IP is unique on the internet and belongs to you or your internet provider.

Special ranges

127.x.x.x is loopback — always your own device. 169.254.x.x is link-local, assigned automatically when no network is available. 224.0.0.0/4 and above are multicast and reserved ranges used by network protocols.

Why it matters

Knowing whether an IP is private or public helps when setting up servers, port forwarding, remote access, or troubleshooting why a device is unreachable.
