Hash Generator

About the Hash Generator

How to use it

1. Choose a mode: Generate a hash, Verify a hash, or create an HMAC. 2. Type or paste your text, or hash a file. 3. Copy the result — SHA-256 is the modern standard, MD5 only for legacy checks.

What is a hash?

A hash is a fixed-length fingerprint of any input — the same input always produces the same hash, and changing even one character produces a completely different one. Hashes cannot be reversed back to the original text.

Which algorithm to use

SHA-256 is the modern standard for integrity checks and is used everywhere from software downloads to blockchain. SHA-512 is its longer sibling. MD5 is old and no longer secure for anything serious — use it only for legacy compatibility or quick checksums.

HMAC mode

HMAC (keyed-hash message authentication code) hashes your text together with a secret key, so the result also proves the sender knows the key. Everything runs locally via your browser's Web Crypto API.
